La Gomera is one of the seven Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean about a four and a half hour flight away from central Europe, some 300 kms off the coast of Africa.

 

La Gomera is the second smallest of the seven islands in the archipelago, measuring 22 kms from east to west and 25 from north to south.

 

"Laurisilva" is the name of the of the evergreen rainforest. Garajonay (1487 m) is the highest peak and is located in the center of the island. Both helped to name the island "the Magic Island".

 

In the forest, 30 m high bay trees are covered with thick moss. The forest is the oldest and best preserved virgin-forest of Europe, a Unesco world cultural heritage national park.

 

The trade winds clouds blanket the higher, northern face of the island.

 

In this constant, damp climate, exhuberant flora has flourished and grown into a dense greenwood, where even the highest trees are covered with moss.

 

The Garajonay Natural Reserve will delight the heart all nature lovers.
